As a Realtor serving the over 55+ market, I specialize in helping you create an enjoyable and comfortable lifestyle during your third and fourth quarters of life. With 26 years of experience, I consult families with aging parents and those facing life transitions, helping develop a practical and achievable plan that fits the needs and timeline. Whether downsizing, rightsizing or decluttering, I'm here to help make the lifestyle transition as stress-free and rewarding as possible.
It could be retirement or a shift in lifestyle due to changing circumstances, such as an empty nest or a need for more accessible living. Whatever the reason, I am here to help make the transition to this new lifestyle as smooth and rewarding as possible.
I have moved over 14 times in my life, and although those moves were all planned & exciting, they still had that element of stress where I could have used a consultant to work with on the details. In the earlier years, it was about the family & the choice of schools.
Now my sons have moved on to own their own homes, and who knows, I could soon be helping the grandsons find a home. But, not to get ahead of ourselves (the grandsons are only 4 & 7 years old). You might remember how it was when you were younger. Getting to the next phase of life could not happen fast enough. My grandson wants a phone and car to do everything the older kids do. However, when we reach 55+, it's the wish for retirement or the kids to move out. Moving forward to the next phase might be downsizing or rightsizing into a home with fewer stairs, more activities, or even into a continuing care community. The timing, although necessary, could be less urgent. In my experience working with Seniors, I have found that after making moves that fit their lifestyle, they say to me "We should have done this move much sooner."
My experience with my parents has been that helping parents make transitions can be challenging. For me my parents were in another state, some 2,000 miles away. It weighs on our hearts and leads to sleepless nights worrying about how things are handled when you are not there. Then add the dynamic of other family members who turn everything into a conflict. It could be about money, caregivers, or who took the treasures your parents collected. It is a ripe environment for emotions for everyone. This experience of moving my parents into care communities, following care plans, selling the house, and moving treasured belongings taught me some valuable lessons in planning that I now share with my clients.
Today, it is just my husband and myself, and we decided that living in a city with a town center, close restaurants, shopping, and on a golf course was important. Finding a home with one level living also makes for a home that we can "Age in Place." Knowing what updates to make to create that space to enjoy entertaining and at the same time making things easily accessible for everyday activities was important in our planning. Thinking about the legacy one wants to leave is also important as we age and preparing for all these steps takes reaching out to professionals that you can trust. As I think about this stage for myself, I must share those same resources with my clients. Let's do it safely, with thoughtfulness and love for those who follow in our footsteps.
